Spirit Week and the Past Week's Updates

Hello Families,

We have had a busy week of learning! This week we had our 1st lockdown drill, a spirit week assembly and ended the week with an assessment on Unit 1 in math.

Our class continues to work on our Daily 5 literacy centers.  We have introduced:

  • Read to Self
  • Word Work
  • Work on Writing
  • Listen to Reading
We will be continuing to practice how we move from center to center in order to prepare for guided reading groups.  I am excited to get them up and running!

In writing we are wrapping up our Personal Narrative Unit. This week we talked about different types of sentences (telling, questions, and exclamatory sentences), capitals at the beginning and punctuation at the end of sentences, adding dialogue as well as adding precise and proper nouns to our writing. The students have done a great job trying to add all these new topics to their writing. This upcoming week we will be adding closure to our stories and will be selecting a piece to be published and placed in the hallway for all to see.  They are so excited to share their writing!

In Math, we worked on learning how to solve simple number stories by drawing pictures, using numbers, etc. to figure them out.  We also learned how to play a game called Rolling to 50.  This game helps the students understand how to use a number grid while practicing counting up and down the grid.  We ended the week taking our unit assessment.  We will be finishing this up on Monday next week and will begin unit 2 on Tuesday.  Parents please check the Everyday Math link on the blog to read the Family letter about Unit 2.

In social studies, we have been talking about our families.  We have been talking about how families are similar and different, some are large or small, etc.  We also started talking about family traditions and sharing our family traditions that we brought in for homework.

This week (September 18-22) will be Spirit Week.  Below are the theses for each day. Every day during spirit week the school will be keeping track of which team wins the theme that day.  For example, if more students come dressed as Country Music stars on Thursday then that will be the winner for the day.
The class with the highest participation during Spirit Week will win a Popcorn Party.

Monday: Superheroes vs. Disney
Tuesday: Any Team vs. Broncos
Wednesday: Blue vs. Green (or last year's Fun Run Shirt)
Thursday: Country Music Stars vs. Rock Stars
Friday: Fun Run Shirts (students will be getting them this week)

The Fun Run will be happening on Friday, September 22nd.  The 1st graders will be running from 12-12:50.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  If you need anything or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

First Week of School!

Hello Families,

We had a great 1st week in 1st grade!  It was a busy with week setting up rules and routines, getting to know each other and attending our 1st assembly!!

Your child should have brought home their Friday folder for the 1st time.  Included in the folder this week were the following:

  • a list of spelling words to study for the week.  Please practice these words at home and we will also practice at school.  We will be taking our 1st spelling test on Friday, August 25th!
  • an invitation to our Back to School night on Thursday, August 24th
  • Fun Run Fundraiser money envelope. Our goal for the fundraiser this year is to raise $25 K. Please visit the school web page for more information about the fun run.
  • Flyer about the Eagleview Parent Teacher Partnership (EPTP) and their upcoming meeting.
Snacks and Water bottles
Please make sure to pack a healthy snack everyday.  Snack will NOT be provided by the teachers.  Make sure to label your child's snack with your child's name and pack it separately from their lunch so they may put it in the snack tub.

If sending in a water bottle, make sure that they are labeled with your child's name. The water bottle for the classroom should be separate from your child's drink if bringing in cold lunch.

Paperwork - Please make sure that I have the following turned in from Meet and Greet night:
  • permission slip to view eclipse
  • health update form
  • district technology agreement
